A brief history
The Brancaia history started in 1981; the Swiss family Widmer purchased the Brancaia estate (Castellina in Chianti) as a Tuscan family retreat. Right from the start, Bruno and Brigitte Widmer decided that they would only produce wines of the highest quality. In addition to the original Brancaia Estate, in 1989, it was added the Poppi Estate (Radda in Chianti) and, in 1998, the Maremma Estate near the Mediterranean coast. Today, the winery comprises 40 hectares of vineyards in Chianti Classico and 40 in the Maremma, with winemaking facilities in each region.
