Growing Conditions

Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is born in the estate vineyards in Loc. Cornia ranging in altitude from 280 to 480 metres above sea level. The soil that distinguishes this wine is characterised from its formation, originating from the Chianti massif, by a high level of compact limestone stoniness resting on a sandstone base. This type of soil restrains the vigour of the plant, lengthens the vegetative cycle and enhances the structure of Chianti. Exposed south/south-west, the hillside is arranged in an amphitheatre conformation characterised by cool winds.

Winemaking

The Sangiovese grapes, meticulously hand-picked with the selection of the best bunches, are destemmed and vinified in stainless steel tanks. Temperature-controlled fermentation takes place at 24°C-27°C with maceration on skins for 15-20 days.

Aging

36 months' ageing in large wooden barrels, with small percentages of wine aged in barriques.
