Growing Conditions

Production area: Province of Siena

Torricella, white wine rich in structure and complexity, enhances its personality with a Chardonnay and a Sauvignon blanc of Tuscan character. Fruit of a careful quality development both in the vineyard and in the cellars, this white wine is able to express the characteristics of a terroir often reputed for its famous “reds” only.

The Sauvignon blanc comes from a vineyard situated at 230 m a.s.l. on alluvial soil and the Chardonnay comes from different plots of which two estate vineyards; one located at 350 m a.s.l. on limestone-rich soil, the other at 460 m a.s.l. on sandy and pebbly soil.

Rainfall and temperatures over the winter were average. Spring was mild and rainy in the early part of the season, while there was no rainfall from late April through May. The rain between June and July helped to ensure a good water reserve and allowed the vines to develop even earlier than usual. A very hot, dry August, helped by cool September nights, completed the ripening of the grapes.

Harvest

The Chardonnay, harvested on August 23rd, was perfectly ripe, and the Sauvignon Blanc, which was harvested earlier than usual, had rich aromas and good acidity and PH balance.
