Growing Conditions
Villa Collazzi is one of the most impressive estates in all of Tuscany. This architectural landmark was originally designed by Michelangelo in 1560 for his friend, Agostino Dini. It offers commanding views of the surrounding countryside. I Collazzi is a property of the Marchi brothers, Carlo and Bona. During the last decade the Marchi brothers invested heavily in the development of Collazzi’s farming business, renewing the vineyards and restructuring the cellar, with the goal of producing excellent wines. Collazzi produces grapes from this esteemed estate only; a super-Tuscan blend called Collazzi, Chianti Classico named Bastioni, and a select few additional bottlings.
Vineyards property of the Collazzi Estate, situated in the municipality of
Impruneta (Florence).
Clayey-calcareous, rich in skeleton and well drained.
The microclimate is warmer and drier than the surrounding areas. Part of the property lies in a natural amphitheatre with an optimal south-west exposure. Abundant insolation and averagely mild daytime temperatures, allow for a prolonged and complete ripening of the grapes, kept constant year after year.
Harvest
Manual harvest. The vineyards are situated in a 400 metre radius from the cellar, allowing for brevity between harvest and processing. Each parcel and variety is harvested and vinified separately, and the grapes accurately selected on a sorting table.
Winemaking
Alcoholic Fermentation at controlled temperature of about 25°.
Malolactic fermentation conducted in stainless steel.
Aging
12 months in barrels and tanks, and 6 months in bottles.
Appearance
Deep, rich red. Intense and lively ruby, typical of the variety it originates from.
